FingerGuard
The safety system by Leonardi.

Compared to other products, the meat grinder requires more caution when designed. Based on severe European directives, in order to reduce the cutting or smashing danger it is mandatory to install a protection system upfront before the cutting area or to limit the possibility of using plates potentially dangerous. In particular, plates with holes larger than mm 8 are designed in such a way that they won’t fit in a meat grinder head that has no protection. In the United States this limit is even smaller: 6 mm.

FingerGuard, the patented safety system developed by Leonardi, makes a further step ahead in terms of safety: the pin that blocks the grinding plate is not in the grinding head anymore but built in a protection cap with a feeding screw inside. The feeding screw, that turns along with the one in the meat grinder, collects the meat directly from the plate and drags it out, protecting at the same time the cutting area.

Even in the case of incorrect use — such as attaching plates with holes larger than 8 mm — meat grinders equipped with FingerGuard, unlike traditional models, eliminate any risk. Thanks to the absence of locking pins and the presence of a handwheel with a diameter larger than that of the plate, it is physically impossible to fully attach an incorrect plate to the grinder’s opening.

Dismantling the system is just as safe: simply remove the entire unit from the machine and proceed on the workbench — without ever coming into contact with moving parts.
